The Caring Kitchen

caring-kitchen

Matthew 25:45 quotes Jesus as saying “Verily I say unto you, in as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” In 1989, Burlington Assembly of God began making plans for what would become The Caring Kitchen. The Good Shepherd Kitchen, one of Burlington’s main soup kitchens, only serves lunch Monday through Friday. Thus, we felt the need to provide a hot lunch on the weekends to the homeless, low-income, and the shut-ins of the Burlington area.

The kitchen opened for the first time in January 1990 and the first meals were served.

How Can I Help?

The Caring Kitchen is grateful for any donations an individual may be able to contribute; whether that is volunteering service or donating goods to the ministry. The ministry is always in need of and welcomes the following types of donations:

  • Canned Foods
  • Paper Products
  • Meat
  • Vegetables
  • Volunteers for preparing, serving, and delivering meals
  • Cash donations to purchase items which are hard to have donated

If you would like to volunteer your services, please call the church office at (336) 227-3434. The Caring Kitchen is at 903 Tucker Street.

More than a “Soup Kitchen”

We are more than a soup kitchen. Many have been blessed through this ministry whether it is through serving others or benefitting from a warm meal. The ministry is run by volunteers who help prepare and serve the meals in addition to helping with the cleanup after the meals each Saturday and Sunday. Each week we remind those we serve that God cares for and loves each of them. We are here to listen and to share Jesus with everyone.
